Lunch&Learn: Understanding Legislation and Navigating E-Laws

'The purpose of this session is to provide a brief overview of the law-making process and a practical introduction to understanding legislative research and navigating Ontario’s online legislation database (E-Laws). By the end of this session, participants will know more about:
· The legislative process, and the roles of both government and the Legislative Assembly.
· The function of Regulations and how they differ from laws.
·Identifying in force dates and proclamations with respect to legislation.
·Monitoring a Bill’s progression through the legislative process and understanding its status.
·Understanding legal language and drafting conventions.
·Using E-Laws as a central legislative resource to navigate the law.
·Assessing legislative history and navigating historical archives of Ontario statutes.
